The truth about removing errors from your credit report
Did you know that your low credit score may not be your fault? That’s right, it might be the result of an error on your credit report. Pretty crazy, right?
When you’re dealing with a low credit score, you’re often on the defensive. You may feel like you have no power in the situation. A low credit score can be embarrassing, but in some situations, it’s not your fault. Something I didn’t learn until much later in life is that it’s possible for there to be errors on your credit report.
Each time you pay a bill, it’s reported to the credit bureaus and starts to boost your credit score due to a good payment history. However, if you miss payments, it negatively impacts your credit score. Negative marks on your credit report can drop your credit score by dozens of points.
At one point, negative marks were lowering my credit score by over 100 points.
Sometimes, these missed payments are the result of a reporting error. These errors don’t just happen with missed payments, either. This can happen with any type of negative mark as well as other information your credit report.
Fortunately, you have the right to challenge errors on your credit report due to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The process in which you do this is with something called a 609 letter.
The problem is that there’s a lot of misinformation out there about 609 letters. Many people believe a 609 letter guarantees the errors are removed from your credit report, but that’s not always the case.
And here’s the exciting announcement!
Because of some of the bad information out there, I decided to write a short eBook…AND IT’S ONLY $0.99!
I actually published the book weeks ago, but I’ve been a bit busy (which is why I haven’t posted anything here lately). Now that I’m back, I thought I’d tell you about the book in case you’re interested.
This is the first of many books that I’ll be writing with different financial education topics to help you improve your money situation as a whole. In this book, you’ll learn:
A simple credit repair strategy
The truth about what actually works when repairing your credit
How to legally repair your score using 609 templates.
DIY credit repair tips that work
How to get collections removed from your credit report
How to boost your credit score
How to get approved for credit cards easily.
How to maintain a great credit score
The book is currently available in the Amazon Kindle store here. You don’t need to have a kindle, either. You just need to download the Kindle app. It’ll be on other book platforms in the coming weeks as well.
And like I said, it’s less than a dollar!
As mentioned, this is the first of many short books I’ll be writing. For paid subscribers, you’ll receive all of my upcoming eBooks for free as a perk. They won’t all be $0.99, so that’s a pretty good deal.
Now that life has calmed down a bit, I’ll be back to writing on more financial education topics here on Substack as well.
Thanks, and I’ll talk to you soon!
Be sure to subscribe! It’s free! You can also consider becoming a paid subscriber for $5 to support what I do here.
If you enjoyed this post and think it can help others, it’d mean a lot to me if you shared it. Forward it in an email, share it on social media, or whatever suits your fancy.
